Union for Contemporary Art Opens Uplift & Elevate

Omaha, NE—The Union for Contemporary Arts’ doors are closed as a precautionary response to the coronavirus, but they’ve still found a way to showcase art in the community. They have announced a new program, Uplift & Elevate, reflecting The Union’s longstanding mission of promoting the development and vision of artists who have traditionally been underrepresented in gallery spaces.

Sub Bass and Darkness at Bemis’ LOW END

Omaha, NE—New York based Sound Artist, Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste will perform an original piece, “Epistemophobiaâ€, at the Bemis Center’s LOW END this Thursday evening. Having a diverse musical background, moving from classical saxophone, to heavy metal, to a formal education in music, Toussaint-Baptiste’s curiosity has led to tinkering with electronic music hardware.
‘Whispered Like the Wind’: Local Composition and Collaborative Performance

Omaha, NE—Tonight, Omaha Symphony will present a concert featuring a composition by local singer and songwriter, Liz Gre. Whispered like the Wind at the Holy Family Catholic Church is a first time collaboration between the Symphony and the Union for Contemporary Art. Gre, currently a fellow at the Union, composes her music drawing upon personal and cultural experience, utilizing a mixed bag of tools, influences and sources of sound.
Bemis Open House/ Open Studios Saturday

Omaha, NE—The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Open House
and Studios is tomorrow, highlighting the work of its 11 current artists in
residence. Coming from around the world, this season’s artists will open their
studios to the public, sharing their work and creative processes—sculpture,
film, and textiles to name just a few disciplines.
This season is also the first featuring the Sound Art and Experimental Music Residency Program, hosting Raven Chacon.
Bemis Center’s ‘Inner Ear Vision’ Opens Tonight

Omaha, NE—The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts’ next exhibition opening tonight, Inner Ear Vision: Sound as Medium, marks the beginning of the organization’s exploration of sound art. Their first sound artist in residence, part of their new residency program, is currently working at the space while the new basement venue is under construction.
Going beyond music as accompaniment, Inner Ear Vision features 18 multidisciplinary artists working at the intersection of sound and visual art—which isn’t too common in the gallery space.
Inner Ear Vision comprises variations of musical instruments, graphic scores, music performances, and immersive installations.
Overall, the exhibition combines numerous talents, disciplines, and cultures to create an innovative aural experience.
