Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award winning musical, Hamilton, returns to Omaha next week, part of Omaha Performing Arts’ Broadway Series. It’s the story of the life and death of one of the country’s more enigmatic Founding Fathers, revolutionary and first secretary of the treasury, Alexander Hamilton. Based on the biography by Ron Chernow, the musical details Hamilton’s service in the American Revolution as well as his complicated political ideas and relationships through a unique soundtrack of hip hop, jazz, and R&B. The role of Hamilton will be played by Edred Utomi.

Hamilton might have at one time been a lesser known figure in American history—compared to Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin at least—but Miranda’s musical has sparked a new interest in his life and role in the founding of the nation.

Rather than its historical significance, however, the musical might best be remembered for bringing diversity to the stage.

Hamilton: An American Musical, opens next Tuesday October 26 at the Orpheum Theater and will run through November 14 with evening and afternoon showings. For more information or tickets, go to O-pa.org.
