Opera Omaha Returns to Stage, ‘The Capulets and the Montagues’
October 15th, 2021
Omaha, NE—Opera Omaha returns to the stage of the Orpheum Theater tonight with Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece, The Capulets and the Montagues. Star-crossed lovers are torn by a feud between families. It’s a familiar story, but audiences who have not seen the opera might be surprised to see that the role of Romeo is played by a female mezzo-soprano.
Though not based on Shakespeare’s famous rendition of the tragedy, both the bard and Bellini were inspired by the old Italian tale.
This performance is Andriana Chuchman’s return to Opera Omaha, last here for 2017’s Flight, and The Capulets and the Montagues will be Directed by James Darrah, also Director of the company’s ONE Festival.
Opera Omaha’s The Capulets and the Montagues, by Vincenzo Bellini, will show at the Orpheum Theater tonight, October 15 at 7:30pm and Sunday the 17 at 2:00pm. For more information or tickets, go to OperaOmaha.org.
