‘Toy Piano Plus Friends’ at Project Project

Omaha, NE—Stacey Barelos, pianist, composer, and teacher at the Omaha Conservatory of music will be in concert at Project Project Gallery this Saturday. The Toy Piano Show Plus Friends will feature Barelos and Evelyn Lindgren on piano and toy piano, with sound artist Alex Jacobsen.

Nostalgic for some, kitschy to others, toy pianos have come in different shapes and sizes since the mid-19th century, but their unique sound has given them their own role in musical cannon.

The toy piano’s metal tines rather than hammered strings are what give the instrument its bell-like quality and lullaby timbre.

Stacey, having a PHD in music, has had plenty of time with the grand piano and orchestral standard instruments, but it’s the seldom highlighted sounds that inspire her as a performer and composer. She’s also working on toy piano album.

The passion for toy pianos isn’t too odd, however, since this Saturday’s set list features contemporary pieces from all over the world.

Toy Piano Show Plus Friends at Project Project Gallery on Vinton Street is this Saturday, April 27 at 7:00pm. For more information, visit ProjectProjectOmaha.com.
