OutrSpaces Introduces Late Night Format, ‘Nite Caps’

Maria Corpuz is host of the new community forum, Nite Caps at OutrSpaces. In contrast to lectures or panel discussions, Nite Caps, inspired by late night tv, is a light evening of conversation and music by locals. To match the late night style, OutrSpaces reimagines its main room as a studio set, complete with cushy chairs, a rug, and flora.

Responding to a local, and perhaps national trend to separate, Nite Caps intends to bring people back together to put it simply.

Nite Caps features members of the community who are leaders, experts in their respective fields, and artists, finding an intersection between them all through spirited discussion—something that Corpuz finds to be lacking in today’s media.

Guests on Friday will discuss the subject of mental health. Denise Gaines, former Director of Mental Health Services for the Douglas County Department of Corrections, will join Roger Zemanek, Peer Support Specialist, and Ameen Wahba, psychology master’s student and musician, who will also perform.

Nite Caps is currently a monthly live event at OutrSpaces, but there are plans for the near future to stream installments online. Already having booked major community figures and politicians, the ambitious project is making strides, as is its host.

Nite Caps at OutrSpaces is tomorrow night August 31st at 7:30pm. The event is free, but donations are suggested. For more information, find the event on Facebook.
