Ballet Nebraska Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Omaha, NE—Ballet Nebraska, soon to be American Midwest Ballet, will perform one of Shakespeare’s most iconic comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream this weekend.

The story is a little tricky to say the least. There are several plotlines, a royal wedding, poor players and fairies.

Lovers’ ambitions come with at least a few unintended consequences. Like the player, Nick Bottom whose head is turned into a donkey, and the fairy queen who falls in love with him under a spell.

Shakespeare’s play juxtaposes the world of the real, and the realm of magic, the city and the forest. Set to Felix Mendelssohn’s musical score, it makes for a great stage presence.

Midsummer was actually the piece that closed Ballet Nebraska’s first performance season, which began in 2009. It’s a fitting close to this season, since Ballet Nebraska will be returning as American Midwest Ballet when they move to their new location in Council Bluffs next season.

Ballet Nebraska will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Orpheum Theatre this weekend, Saturday, May 5th at 7:30pm and Sunday May 6th at 2:00pm. For more information or tickets, visit BalletNebraska.org
