Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company Presents ‘Uncle Vanya’

Omaha, NE—Uncle Vanya, one of Anton Chekhov’s major plays, opens at the Joslyn Castle this week, performed by The Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company. Chekhov is one of the lucky few authors whose name has become an adjective for describing writing, usually frustrating and introspective, but actors Leanne Hill Carlson and Scott Working see another side to the Russian’s composition.

Vanya, portrayed by Working, is put in a difficult position when the owner of the estate returns and announces his plans to sell. To complicate matter further, he falls in love with the owner’s much younger second wife, Yelena, played by Carlson. For Working, the story is an example of some of the most important themes in drama.

The Joslyn Castle’s upstairs ballroom is an interesting, and perhaps fitting location for this intimate performance. The company made several decisions on costume and set design to emphasize that sense of ‘being there’ in addition to the setting.

Uncle Vanya opens this Thursday, April 5th at the Joslyn Castle and will run through April 20th with performances on various days of the week at 7:30pm. For more information or tickets, visit bsbtheatre.com
