‘The Revolutionists’ Premieres at UNO Theatre

Omaha, NE—UNO’s “Revolutionary Season” continues with historical comedy The Revolutionists this week by one of the most produced contemporary playwrights, Lauren Gunderson. The play creatively reimagines the female perspective during the height of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. It’s a modern take on the roles of Marie Antoinette, Charlotte Corday, who famously killed Jean-Paul Marat, and perhaps lesser known figures, like Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle, and female playwright, Olympe de Gouges, played by Sam Mashek

UNO theatre began planning The Revolutionists as early as last semester and began rehearsals right after winter break. To deal with the some of the high demands of the rehearsal process, a bond between the cast and crew can be a welcome relief according to Mashek and Stage Manager Jessie Curry.

Sticking to true to the original script, The Revolutionists is an all female production.  The play blends historical events and costumes with modern sentiments and language—and a soundtrack featuring Top 40 female pop stars.

Previews for The Revolutionists will be Feb. 21-22 with performances Feb. 23-24 and Feb. 28 – March 3, 2018, in the UNO Theatre, Weber Fine Arts Building. The house opens at 7:00 P.M. with a 7:30 P.M. curtain for all performances. For more information or tickets, search “UNO Theatre” online.
