Vaudeville Takes the Stage Again in Benson
By Corbin Hirschhorn
Omaha, NE—Benson is bringing back old fashioned entertainment in a big way—Vaudeville. The Benson Theater has been out of commission for some years now. It was a popular movie theater in the mid-century, but in the ‘20s it was home for musicians, comedians, dancers, actors and magicians. That’s exactly the kind of entertainment Executive Director of the theatre Amy Ryan hopes to bring back to the neighborhood.

When Omaha Chamber Music Society began planning Eko Nova’s next performance at Kaneko, Tango Romántico, they were right to call Omaha Symphony’s lead flutist Maria Harding.
Keeping in line with Eko Nova’s ethos, Harding selected tunes from both classic and contemporary, living composers. The task for Harding and fellow performers, including Canadian guitarist and arranger Louis Trepanier, is to maintain tango’s street spirit in the gallery setting.
Tango Romántico offers guests two unique experiences as far as chamber concerts go. The audience is invited to dance, and instructors from Omaha’s vintage ballroom will be there to help.
Also enjoy samplings of Argentine wine and chocolate from Chocolate Abeille in the Old Market.
Tango Romántico is Monday, Feb. 12 at Kaneko at 7:00pm. For more information or tickets, visit OmahaChamberMusic.org.
