Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is proposing the City rename parts of 20th Street, in honor of Ty & Terri Schenzel

Mayor Jean Stothert said Ty & Terri Schenzel created opportunities for thousands of Omaha youth.

Pastor Ty Schenzel opened the Hope Center for Kids on 20th Street in 1998, and was the executive director of the Center up until his retirement earlier this year.

The Schenzels were killed in a car accident in August in South Dakota.

Mayor Stothert is asking the City Council to rename portions of 20th Street, to Ty and Terri Schenzel Street. The affected portion of 20th runs one block from Willis Avenue to Burdette Street, where the Hope Center for Kids is located.

Stothert said the Schenzels, “saw hope and opportunity in others and dedicated their lives to their faith and family. This is a way to show our gratitude for their ministry and service.”

The application for the name change is on the October 20th Council Agenda. Stay tuned to KVNO News for updates.
