Omaha, NE – The hockey team at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is coming off a year where they won 20 games, including 12 in conference and hit the pinnacle in college hockey.

The success and exposure from last season has turned into excitement this offseason. Season ticket sales are up from 3,200 in 2014 to 6,050 heading into the first year at Baxter Arena (capacity 7,500). To note, with so many seats available at the CenturyLink Center (capacity 15,959), the demand for season tickets just wasn’t there. Now more than 80 percent of the new arena has been sold to season ticket holders.
In recruiting, UNO signed eight players this week, seven to scholarships and one walk-on. Six of the players are American, one player is from the Czech Republic and one is Canadian. Mav head coach Dean Blais is excited about the potential of the four defensemen the Mavs signed. He says they all will have a good chance to compete as freshman. The Mavs signed two players who have Nebraska ties. Goaltender Kris Oldham played last season for the Omaha Lancers of the United State Hockey League and defenseman Ryan Jones played for the Lincoln Stars (USHL).
The start of the 2014-2015 season is October 9th as UNO travels to Mankato for a two game series with Minnesota State. The Baxter Arena will be completed in time for UNO’s opening home game October 23rd against the Air Force Academy.
