Film Streams Gets Looney
March 1st, 2015
Omaha, NE — Normally when I talk with Film Streams found Rachel Jacobson, it’s about the latest round of critically acclaimed indie films or an under-appreciated, hard-hitting documentary. This is not one of those times.[audio:https://kvnonews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Looney-Toons-Web.mp3]
That’s right Looney Tunes are back for a short time at Film Streams as part of their Forever Young Winter Series. While art house foreign films and future Oscar winners are still the cornerstone of the theater, Jacobson said there’s always room for the toons.
“This is something we do whenever we get the chance, basically. They recently put out some fun, restored classic Looney Tunes,” Jacobson said.
Fresh from the Warner Brothers, the theater will showcase nine newly-restored cartoon from the golden era between 1944 and 1956. This includes the classics One Froggy Evening featuring Michigan J Frog, Little Red Riding Rabbit with Bugs Bunny, and of course Duck Dodgers in the 24th and ½ Century with Daffy Duck. Rest assured all of your favorite Looney Tunes will be there.
“It’s all your friends,” Jacobson said. “Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester, Tweety Bird!”
And while the animation surely brings out the kid in all of us, Jacobson said one key elements of those cartoons is something KVNO fans will thoroughly enjoy.
“The voice acting is unbelieveable, the drawings are so great and expressive and fun, but one thing that I have always loved is the music,” she said. “When I hear something, when I’m at the symphony or the opera, I realize that I recognize something from Looney Tunes! There’s references to important cultural stuff everywhere. They’re so smart and simple and dumb all at once. They’re wonderful.”
Film Streams run of restored and classic Looney Tunes will run this Thursday, March 5th at 1:45 and 4:45 p.m. For more information on all the classic cartoons playing, visit www.FilmStreams.org.
