Omaha, NE – The UNO women’s golf team is ready to get the season started, according to team captain Sophie Peters.

Peters said the team is well balanced with the experience of returning players and a new stock of recruits. She called the team a close knit group and she said it makes it easier to focus on what is most important, the game of golf.

“Absolutely, Coach often calls us more of a family than a team,” Peters said. “We all get along really well we are all friends and we spend a lot of time on and off the course together. (There is) a lot of team camaraderie,” she said.

Peters started her career at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and she heads into her junior year as the only upperclassmen on the girl’s squad. Peters finished last season with two top five finishes and she shot a season low round of 73 last year at the Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Missouri. But Peters said she is looking to better her overall game.

“I would personally like to see my short game improve,” Peters said. “I think I struggled with that quite a bit last season but this summer I’ve been working on it and its getting better and hopefully that will help my score and help the team this season,” she said.

UNO’s first official invite is the Chip-N-Club Invitational at Nebraska on September 9th.
