OPD: “Implied threat” no cause for concern

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Police Department said Tuesday it was notified of an “implied threat” to the Omaha area by an anonymous online poster. The post stated “Omaha NE. Watch the news. 9 am. Tomorrow. Big Things.”
In a statement, OPD spokesperson Lt. Darci Tierney said homicide detectives worked Monday night to locate the person who posted the comments, and identified him as Joshua Gustafson. Tierney said police “thoroughly investigated” the incident and determined the threat was not viable, and Gustafson did not “have any immediate access to firearms or other destructive devices.”
Gustafson was determind a potention threat to himself or others and was placed into emergency protective custody for mental evaluation, but no criminal charges have been filed.
Tierney said in light of the tragic shootings in Connecticut last week, Omaha police notified school districts of the situation. “We will look into every threat and we will hold people responsible for their actions,” the statement said.
