Trisha Hoffman-Ahrens, Omaha Performing Arts Vice President of Marketing and Communications, said while the original movie is fun, watching it live on stage is an experience that cannot be replicated.

“There’s more than 20 wonderful songs, including some of the songs that you hear in the movie like I’m a Believer which was incredibly popular,” she said. “So it’s just a lot of fun to see these characters kind of brought to life.”

“I think it just brings that excitement and energy that you can only get from a live production,” she said.

Despite its fairy tale characters, Hoffman-Ahrens said both child and adult audiences alike will appreciate the performance and the subtle shout outs. “What also is fun is that they also make a lot of references to other Broadway shows,” she said. “So for those Broadway fans out there, and there’s lots of them, I think that they can really appreciate some of the references to those other shows as well.”

Shrek runs through October 28 at the Orpheum Theater.
