UNO head women’s soccer coach Don Klosterman added a late entry to his team for the upcoming 2012-2013 season. Meaghan Clark, a 5 ft. 6 in. goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho will join the Mavericks as the second goalkeeper on the team, alongside sophomore Sarah Warren.

Clark fills a big need on the team as last year’s starting keeper, Katelyn Tschida, decided to give up soccer following her sophomore season. Clark joins seven other recruits for UNO in the upcoming season. Four of the seven recruits are native Nebraskans.

In Maverick hockey, UNO head coach Dean Blais announced the addition of six new players, including three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie. One player who might sound familiar to Omahans is forward Tanner Lane, who played for the Fargo Force and the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League last season. Last year, Lane contributed 12 goals and 20 assists in 48 games. Lane was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets franchise in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, but decided to play in the top junior hockey league in the country and to try his hand at collegiate hockey.

The upcoming season for the Mavs will be the last in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference. In 2013, they will move to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, also known as “The National.” Officials this week have announced the authorized location for the Conference tournament starting in 2014. The final four surviving teams of the quarterfinal games, which are played at the home of the top four seeded teams, will play at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN. CBS Sports Network, will televise the games at Target Center nationally.
