A revelation is coming to Omaha
February 22nd, 2011
Omaha, NE – A musically expressed revelation is coming to Omaha. The internationally acclaimed dance company, Alvin Ailey, will perform “Revelations” at the Orpheum Theater on Wednesday, March 9th.
“Revelations,” was choreographed by the late Alvin Ailey, the founder of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This performance celebrates the human spirit and the history of African Americans through music and modern dance.
Cultural experiences like “Wade in the Water” are also expressed in the show. In American history, this song, in reference to the the Biblical baptism and cleansing of the soul, was used as a code language by slaves journeying to freedom on the Underground Railroad.
“Revelations” dates back to the 1960’s. This performance celebrates five decades of revelations. The renowned Judith Jamison is the Artist Director for the show. Jamison said this is a “profound manifestation of how dance can celebrate the human spirit and impact our hearts and minds.”
Other dance productions in “Revelations” include; “Suite Otis,” “In/Side,” and “Dancing Spirit.” The show starts March 9th, Wednesday evening at 7:30pm at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Omaha, as a part of the Omaha Performing Arts Dance Series.
