Wynton Marsalis performs at the Holland

Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and at the age of 12 he started classical training on trumpet. In 1982, he released his first album and since has recorded more than 30 jazz and classical recordings. Since 1992, he has performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, a group of 15 jazz soloists and ensemble players. Under the musical direction of Marsalis, the band plays musical compositions and arrangements by artists like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as original compositions.
Marsalis was also awarded the first Pulitzer Prize for recording jazz music and has won nine Grammys during his musical career. The show starts Saturday, Feb. 5 at 8 pm at the Holland Performing Arts Center in downtown Omaha.
