Vesper Concert Series Returns, ‘At Home in Nebraska’

August 23rd, 2019

Omaha, NE—This weekend, the Vesper Concert Series enters its 31st season with At Home in Nebraska, a concert featuring selections from contemporary and classic operas. Not only have many of Sunday’s musicians found home in Nebraska from elsewhere, but the afternoon’s contemporary selections also debuted here.

Featuring Hal France and Taylor Stayton

The concert will begin with these two contemporary pieces and resolve with some operatic favorites, like Federico’s Lament, La Danza—and also some Bernstein. The movement from the first to the second half of the concert exhibit a progression of themes and styles, but it’s also just as much about being an exciting challenge for musicians and audiences.

The aim of Sunday’s concert is not to difference local music apart from classic opera, but rather perhaps to set them on the same stage.

The 2019-2020 season of the free Vesper Concert Series begins this Sunday August 25 with At Home in Nebraska, 3:00pm at the Presbyterian Church of the Cross. For more information, visit VesperConcerts.org.
