ArtSlam19 Tonight at Bancroft Street Market

Omaha, NE—Tonight’s ArtSlam19 at Bancroft Street Market isn’t exactly a typical gallery exhibition, where some guests might glance passively at one painting or another. It’s an annual event created by UNO’s Friends of Art, an organization that supports emerging talent. The artists, nine local upstarts, invite the audience to speak up and weigh in.

Patrons are encouraged to get to know the artists, but they’re also judges and recipients of the evening’s prizes. With the entry fee come raffle tickets to be given to chosen artists. The top three crowd-favorite artists will receive an award from FOA, and the winning ticket holders will get to take home a piece for their collection.

Between the nine artists showing, there are just as many different styles and media on display: oil paint, watercolor and acrylic, cyanotype photography, origami, and sculptural assemblage. Patrons have plenty to choose from, and artists will enjoy a well-deserved reward for their work, but in the end, ArtSlam is really about the experience.

It’s not all business for artists and patrons tonight, however, because FOA has one other reputation at events—homemade hors d’oeuvres and desserts for all.

ArtSlam19 is tonight at Bancroft Street Market from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at FOAOmaha.org
