This Week in Lincoln: Civics, Taxes Spark Debate

Each Friday morning, the KVNO News website will provide a recap of Fred Knapp’s updates on the Nebraska Legislature for NET News. These stories run daily on 90.7 FM at 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., but in case you missed them, here they are again:

TUESDAY, FEB. 19 – A proposed change to Nebraska’s requirement of “Americanism” education in schools was debated by senators, and a bill amending meat labeling had a public hearing.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 20 – A state income tax cut was the subject of a public hearing, and debate continued on the civics proposal.

THURSDAY, FEB. 21 – Debate on a bill on military recruitment in schools became emotional, the financial troubles of the state’s nursing homes and assisted living centers were discussed, and the Revenue Committee advanced an online sales tax bill.
