Film Streams’ 9th Annual Filmmaker Showcase

Omaha NE—Omaha’s source for classic and contemporary art film, Film Streams also highlights local filmmakers and their stories. Tonight is the opening night of their ninth Local Filmmaker Showcase, featuring local short films.

The annual showcase is a major event for the theater, with calls for submissions starting as early as April. Each year, the submissions are reviewed and curated by a new group of guest jurors—this year, a group of artists who contributed work to the newly renovated Dundee Theater.

Patrick Kinney, Film Streams’ Communications Director, has noticed over the years a motif developing among Nebraskan and Iowan cinema.

Though there are often some thematic threads between submissions, the showcase features a wide variety of genres and aesthetic styles.

There is also one surprise for this year’s showcase. For the first time, the theater will screen a film outside of the main showcase in the micro-cinema. “Stinson Prism Incense” will be shown as an open installation, running twice on a loop.

Film Streams’ Local Filmmaker Showcase is tonight November 1st from 7pm to 10pm at the Dundee Theater. There will be two encore screenings on Sunday, November 4th at 2pm and Tuesday the 6th at 7pm at the Ruth Sokolof Theater. For more information or tickets, visit FilmStreams.org.
