Kaneko Hosts ‘Curious Conversations’

The Museum of Alternative History, part of the Reality exhibition, is going on now at the Kaneko. Curated by Tim Guthrie, the Museum blends truth with fiction, blurring perception, and challenging belief. This is actually not the first Museum of Alternative history, but only its latest and grandest incarnation. Guthrie opened the first one years ago at the RNG Gallery in Council Bluffs very soon after conceiving one simple concept.

11th Annual Omaha Fashion Week

Now in its 11th year, Omaha Fashion Week is the 5th largest fashion event in the country.

Omaha Fashion week includes both local and visiting designers and fashionistas. From Monday thru Saturday, the event at the Omaha Design Center will feature models on the runway, pop up shops, and champagne. Fashion week will also present two prizes this year, one to best emerging designer and another to best featured designer.

Maple Street Construct Opens ‘Wall Assembly’

Omaha, NE—Simply put, the Duck vs. the Decorated Shed a theory of architecture put forward by Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown, and Steven Izenour. For them, all structures fall into one of those categories, either resembling an object as a sculpture, like a duck, which is a reference to an actual structure in Long Island, or a more standard structure with a façade to give a certain impression.

Architect and assistant professor at UCLA, Andrew Kovacs has unpacked this dichotomy in his work, some of which will be shown this weekend at Maple Street Construct. He begins with scaled down sculptures, often resembling complex 3-dimensional collages of pieced together objects and architectural styles, sometimes challenging the limits of perception.
