Participants from twelve different high schools each had their best slam poetry artist walk to the stage and step up to the microphone to share a poem about topics including body images, relationships, and family.

Bellevue West, Duchesne Academy, and Lincoln High School, all placed first in Sunday’s competition. Round two of the competition will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evening at the Omaha Healing Arts Center. Organizers say Sunday’s winning teams have the best chance of competing at the finals this Friday evening at 7 pm, at Creighton University’s Harper Auditorium in downtown Omaha.
